The wild geraniums are blooming along the north side of my house. The Vaneff daughter Antina who grew up in the house says her father brought them back from a trip to the old country (Macedonia). She says the girls in Macedonia would crush the leaves and rub them behind their ears for the perfume aroma.

Alan,
I hate to identify a plant from a photograph, but it looks like your geranium from the old country is Geranium macrorrhizum. It has some popularity as a garden perennial and is a parent of some hybrid geraniums that are sold in the perennial trade.

It is similar to a cranesbill that I see around Lake Erie, but it's not completely the same. I'm Antina's daughter so I know the touch, smell and feel of it. I've never seen anything identical to this, and plant some wherever I live. It is growing very well in a damp area on the north side of my house, and needs no care.
