Shortly after Mansfield got its water works the idea emerged of having a fountain in Central Park. Funds were raised in the community that paid for constructing the reservoir. David and Jane Vasbinder, brother and sister, paid for the fountain itself. The total cost was $2500. The fountain was originally dedicated on Monday, July 4, 1881. Festivities were dampened by news of the assassination of president Garfield the previous Saturday.

I hate the color. It looks like a garbage can. It looks like crap.
I resent that remark. I have a breadbox that color!
Well you know the old saying, 'what's good for the breadbox is bad for the fountain'.
I'm disappointed in the fountain, unless they aren't done yet. The lighter weathered copper look was much prettier & gave it an 'ageless' appeal.
More people should have a breadbox - I think they've really waned in popularity over the last 30 years.
